Investments

What the family owns, and how it is held.

The family invests through ventures of its own rather than through managers. Each one is run by people the family knows, and each is set out here with what it is and where to read more.

01 · Equity

Public markets,
through our own house.

Rather than place money with outside managers, the family built the house and anchored the fund it runs.

The family’s equity venture

KIOCAP

Registered as

Artha Bharat Multi Asset Global Capital Fund

Kio Cap is the name the family gave its public markets venture. Its registered vehicle is the Artha Bharat Multi Asset Global Capital Fund — one thing under two names, the first for the people who run it and the second for the regulator.

An IFSCA Category III AIF at GIFT City, denominated in US dollars. Long-only and unlevered, concentrated in technology and AI, healthcare AI, and renewables and energy services. Roughly 80% public equities and 20% private and opportunistic, with a GIFT City feeder for investors in India and a Mauritius feeder for investors elsewhere. The family is its lead anchor investor, on the same terms as everyone after it.

Fund manager

Sachin Sawrikar, who founded the Artha Bharat platform and is its Group CEO, manages the fund. Three decades in fund management across India and the Gulf, previously at Bank Muscat, GFH Financial Group and SBI Mutual Fund.

02 · Private

Positions taken
directly.

The family’s private positions are being compiled and will be listed here. They sit alongside the public book rather than instead of it, and account for roughly a fifth of the invested capital.

03 · Real estate

What the family
has built in Kerala.

Two residential buildings in Kochi and three school campuses. The schools are not held for a return, and never have been.

Residential tower · Tripunithura, Kochi

Choice Paradise

40 floorsChoice Paradise rising above the trees in Tripunithura, Kochi.

Forty floors and a roof at 137 metres, built between 2008 and 2010 and opened in 2012. It remains one of the tallest buildings in Kerala, and was engineered to stand through an earthquake of magnitude 7.2.

Waterfront residences · Kochi

Choice Marina

138,000 sq ftChoice Marina on the Kochi backwater, with a boat moored at its quay.

A thirteen-storey waterfront building of three-bedroom homes, designed by the New York practice CetraRuddy. A rooftop lounge and pool, verandas and a private garden, with a seafood restaurant at the water’s edge — which, for this family, is less of a flourish than it sounds.

Education · three campuses and eight pre-schools

The Choice School

4,000 studentsThe Choice School campus building, Kochi.

Run by the Choice Foundation at Tripunithura, Thiruvalla and Kozhikode, with about 500 educators, boarding from Class 3, and CBSE alongside the full International Baccalaureate at two of the three. Jose Thomas opened the first school in 1991 with an intake of 43 and is the Foundation’s President today. These are the family’s longest-running commitment, and the one part of this page held for no return at all.

The figures for Choice Marina describe the building as designed in 2008 and should be checked against what stands.
